Happy February, San Diego! This month is National Children’s Dental Health Month. At San Diego Family Care (SDFC), we believe every child in Mid-City and Linda Vista deserves a smile they feel proud of.
A healthy mouth helps kids grow up strong. Let’s look at why those little teeth are so important!
Why Baby Teeth are Superstars
Some people think baby teeth don’t matter because they fall out later. But that’s not true! Baby teeth are “superstars” for three big reasons:
Talking: Teeth help kids make the right sounds when they learn to speak.
Eating: Strong teeth make it easy to chew healthy foods like crunchy vegetables.
Space: Baby teeth hold the right spot in the mouth so adult teeth can grow in straight later on.
Healthy Habits at Home
You don’t need fancy tools to keep teeth healthy. Just follow the 2-2-2 Rule:
2 Times a Day: Brush once in the morning and once before bed.
2 Minutes: Use a timer or a fun song to make sure you brush for a full two minutes.
2 Times a Year: Visit your friends at the SDFC dental clinic for a check-up!
Celebrate “Give Kids a Smile” Day
Mark your calendars for Friday, February 6th, 2026. This is a special day called Give Kids a Smile Day.
It is a great reminder for all parents in our community to check in on their children’s dental health. If your child has a “sugar bug” (a cavity) or if it has been a long time since their last cleaning, we are here to help! Our dental team is very gentle and loves working with kids.
